Binduri shooting: Investigate, bring assailants to book – Nalerigu/Gambaga MP

Member of Parliament for Nalerigu/Gambaga, Nurideen Mohammed Mununi, has called for a swift and thorough investigation into the Binduri shooting that claimed the lives of five people, including women and children.

Speaking in an interview on Channel One News on Saturday, November 8, the MP, who serves on Parliament’s Interior and Defence Committee, expressed deep concern over the incident and strongly condemned it, describing it as unacceptable that such acts of violence continue despite ongoing security interventions.

“The Interior Minister is doing his best, but the issue is overwhelming. They often set up investigations, but after that, we need to see concrete outcomes. When investigations are done and these criminals are identified, they must be prosecuted and made to face the law. I believe if that is done, some of these incidents will stop,” he stated.

He further urged security agencies to move beyond routine investigations and intensify intelligence operations in conflict-prone areas of the Upper East Region to prevent future attacks. He stressed that ensuring justice for victims and holding perpetrators accountable would serve as a deterrent to others.

The call follows the tragic shooting of five people by unknown gunmen during curfew hours at Tengmasug, a suburb of the Binduri District, on Thursday, November 7, 2025.

Police reports indicate that the assailants attacked a household around 7:15 p.m., opening fire on occupants indoors at the time. Five people were killed instantly, while one person sustained gunshot wounds and is receiving treatment. The attackers also shot and killed two bullocks belonging to the family before fleeing the scene.

Police in the Upper East Region have confirmed the incident and assured the public that investigations are ongoing to apprehend those responsible.

Meanwhile, the Assembly Member for the area, Anaba Joseph, described the attack as devastating and criticised security agencies for lapses in monitoring, despite prior intelligence indicating growing tensions in the community.
