The Managing Director of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), Adam Mutawakilu, says the Mahama administration is now considering funding options for constructing new transmission lines to distribute water from the ongoing 20-million-gallon-per-day expansion at the Daboase Water Treatment Plant.
Speaking during his second-day tour of water facilities in the Western Region, on Wednesday, November 19, Mr Mutawakilu expressed satisfaction with progress at the Daboase plant, noting that the project is 96 % complete.

However, he revealed that the expansion did not originally factor in how the 100,000 cubic metres of water per day would be transported to communities across Sekondi-Takoradi and surrounding areas when operations begin in March 2026.
“This project has been going on for the past three years, and we are currently at 96% completion. Most of the structural, electrical and laying works have been done. We are left with only the finishing aspects, and hopefully, by the 9th of March, all things being equal, the plant should be ready for production, and people in the Western Region will be able to access potable water in their various communities,” he said.
