The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has announced an increase in funding for the adjudication of chieftaincy disputes at the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs.
The quarterly allocation has been increased from GH¢30,000 to GH¢50,000, effective April 1, this year.
Mr. Ibrahim announced during a familiarisation visit to the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs in Dodowa on Thursday, January 22.
He explained that the increase is aimed at improving the timely resolution of chieftaincy disputes, which he described as critical to peace and stability in the region.
“The President H.E John Dramani, being a listening President, has listened to the prayers. In this matter, he has taken steps to have the quarterly allocation for the adjudication of cases increased from GH¢30,000 per quarter to GH¢50,000 per quarter.
“Effective 1 April, the amount for the adjudication of cases will be increased from GH¢30,000 per quarter to GH¢50,000,” he announced.
The Minister also disclosed a 300 per cent increase in monthly allowances for Paramount Chiefs and Queen Mothers under the Mahama administration.
Paramount Chiefs will now receive GH¢3,000, while Queen Mothers will receive GH¢2,400.
“The government has taken steps and has implemented that the monthly allowances of our Paramount Chiefs and Queen Mothers have been increased substantially by the President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama, by 300%. Therefore, our queens will get GH¢2,400 and our kings and chiefs GH¢3,000,” he stated.
He acknowledged operational challenges facing the House, including inadequate staffing and security, and assured traditional authorities of the government’s commitment to strengthening the institution of chieftaincy.
The visit formed part of the Ministry’s broader engagement with traditional leaders across the country.
