The management of Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) has procured and handed over new operational vehicles to enhance the efficiency and productivity of the refinery.
The fleet includes eight Mitsubishi pickups, three Toyota Coaster buses, two industrial forklifts, and other essential vehicles to support the day-to-day operations of TOR.
This comes after the refinery announced on December 27, 2025, that it had restarted crude oil refining operations after several years of inactivity, marking a major step in efforts to revive Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector.
The vehicles were officially handed over to the refinery on Sunday, January 4, 2026. The Board Chairman of TOR, Nayon Bilijo, described the procurement as a timely logistical intervention, noting that the refinery had long faced significant operational and logistical constraints.
“The last instance the refinery benefited from such substantial logistical support from management dates back to 2013, and the prolonged absence of adequate operational logistics adversely affected productivity and slowed overall progress,” Mr. Bilijo said.
He added that the immediate deployment of the vehicles for official and operational use is “most encouraging” and a key step toward improving refinery operations.
The board chairman revealed that the vehicles were procured using the Internally Generated Funds (IGF) of the company from 2025, the same mechanism used to fund other works at the refinery.
Mr. Bilijo also expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama and the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, for their continued support and strategic guidance toward the sustainable success and revitalisation of the refinery.
“Management further extends its heartfelt gratitude to the entire workforce for their resilience, dedication, and unflinching support from day one to the present,” he added.
The new vehicles are expected to improve logistics, enhance operational efficiency, and support TOR’s broader mandate of sustaining Ghana’s petroleum refining capacity.
