The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso East by-election, Baba Jamal Ahmed Mohammed, is expected to formally file his nomination today, Wednesday, February 11, at the Greater Accra Regional Office of the Electoral Commission (EC).
The anticipated filing comes after the party’s National Functional Executive Committee cleared him to contest the by-election, despite allegations of vote buying that emerged following the NDC’s parliamentary primary held on February 7.
The allegations, which generated public debate and internal party scrutiny, did not prevent the party from endorsing Baba Jamal as its official candidate after its internal review processes.
Ahead of the filing, Baba Jamal addressed supporters and party faithful at his office, where he expressed appreciation to the leadership of the NDC for the confidence reposed in him.
He described the clearance as an important milestone in his political journey and a signal of the party’s readiness to move forward with unity and purpose.
“I thank you all very much. The National Functional Executive Committee has finally cleared me to go and file my papers. We will expect all of you here. We are going with a massive crowd to the Electoral Commission to file my papers.”
His remarks were met with cheers from supporters, many of whom pledged their readiness to accompany him to the Electoral Commission as a demonstration of solidarity and grassroots support.
Baba Jamal’s clearance follows days of tension and speculation within political circles, as concerns were raised over alleged inducements to delegates during the primaries.
