President John Dramani Mahama on Saturday, January 31, 2026, officially launched the SheaPark Resource Hub at the Wa Naa’s Palace, a move described as a major boost to economic revival and industrial development in the Upper West Region.
The flagship initiative is designed to revitalise the regional economy through industrialisation and value addition within the shea sector, positioning the Upper West Region as a key contributor to Ghana’s broader agro-industrial transformation agenda.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, who is also the proponent of the initiative, described the occasion as a “royal honour and blessing,” and expressed appreciation to the organisers for the opportunity to be part of what he called a historic intervention.
According to him, the SheaPark Resource Hub represents a critical development pathway not only for the Upper West Region but for the country as a whole. He said the launch marked an important milestone in efforts to resuscitate the regional economy through sustainable, inclusive and community-driven development.
The Speaker explained that the initiative aligns closely with key government programmes, including the Big Push, the 24-Hour Economy and the Accelerated Export Development agenda. He noted that the SheaPark concept draws inspiration from President Mahama’s vision of building a self-reliant, industrially competitive and export-driven Ghanaian economy supported by integrated value chains and a globally competitive workforce.
President Mahama, in launching the facility, underscored the importance of adding value to local resources as a means of creating jobs, boosting incomes and reducing poverty, particularly in historically underserved regions.
The event was attended by His Royal Highness Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV, Paramount Chief of Wa; the Member of Parliament for Wa Central; parliamentary and presidential staffers; regional ministers; Municipal and District Chief Executives; and other distinguished guests from across the region and beyond.
The SheaPark Resource Hub is expected to serve as a catalyst for growth in the shea industry, enhance export potential and strengthen Ghana’s push towards inclusive industrialisation.
