Sports and Recreation Minister, Kofi Iddie Adams, has acknowledged that while some progress has been made in his first year as minister, there is still much work to be done to develop Ghana’s sports sector.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Point of View with Bernard Avle on Monday, March 30, Kofi Adams reflected on his tenure, saying, “There is some work to show, but I don’t think it is enough considering what it is that we set out to do.
“We still have a lot of work to do. I am happy for the little progress, but then there is that desire to work even more and achieve more.”
The minister highlighted the abundance of talent across all sports disciplines in Ghana, stressing that what is needed is structured support and a system that allows this talent to grow.
He also noted the high level of interest Ghanaians show in international clubs, pointing out that the same enthusiasm is not always extended to local sports.
“It means also the interest is there,” he said, emphasising the potential for greater engagement with domestic sports if opportunities and systems are strengthened.
Meanwhile, the Ghana national football team has suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to the Germany national football team in an international friendly played in Stuttgart.
The result compounds Ghana’s recent struggles, coming just days after a heavy 5-1 loss to Austria national football team on Friday, March 27.
