The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has set up a Public Land Protection Taskforce to prevent encroachment and unauthorised development on state lands across the country.

The initiative, announced by Deputy Lands Minister Yusif Suleman, forms part of efforts by the ministry to strengthen the protection and management of public lands amid increasing concerns about illegal occupation and construction.

Addressing the press on Wednesday, March 11, the Deputy Minister disclosed that the task force has been established in collaboration with the Lands Commission and is currently awaiting formal inauguration before commencing full operations.

The task force, he stated, will operate within the legal framework of the Constitution of Ghana and the Lands Act, 2020 (Act 1036), as well as other applicable criminal laws relating to trespass and unlawful encroachment.

“This is going to be across the country, and where we do not have the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, Works, Housing and Water Resources, the Regional Coordinating Councils will represent them. Then we will have the service and other allied security agencies.

“We will also bring on board some selected private sector stakeholders and technical expertise. The task force will be responsible for preventing encroachment on public lands, halting unauthorised development, and ensuring that lands under review are protected for legal occupation,” he added.
