The Police have arrested a 19-year-old man suspected of attacking and robbing a male adult at Asabi in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The suspect, identified as Ahmed Mustapha, was arrested by the Asokore Mampong Night Patrol Team in the early hours of Tuesday, July 21, after officers responded to a distress call about a robbery incident.
In a statement issued on Thursday, July 23, the police said the patrol team received information at about 12:20 a.m. that a man had been robbed of his mobile phone and found unconscious near the Presbyterian Church at Asabi.
The officers immediately moved to the scene, where they spotted the suspect fleeing. The suspect reportedly sought refuge in an uncompleted building but was pursued and arrested by the patrol team.
A search conducted on him led to the recovery of the victim’s mobile phone and a machete believed to have been used during the attack. The items have since been retained as exhibits to aid investigations.
The victim sustained machete wounds to his forehead, neck and left hand. He was rushed to the KNUST Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
“At about 5:30 am on the same date, the victim was visited at the hospital. He had regained consciousness, was in a stable condition, and continues to receive medical care under observation,” the statement added.
The suspect remains in Police custody, assisting with investigations as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
