The Circuit Court in Lawra has sentenced a 47-year-old man, Kwame Ti-Zaaelcuu, to 20 years’ imprisonment for incest after he was found guilty of sexually abusing his 17-year-old biological daughter over an extended period.

The convict was also sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for threatening the life of the survivor, with both sentences to run concurrently in hard labour.

The conviction followed investigations and prosecution by the Lawra District Police Command after a complaint was lodged against the convict, leading to the establishment of the offences.

According to the Upper West Regional Police Command, the investigations revealed that the convict abused his daughter, a Junior High School student, while allegedly threatening to kill her if she disclosed the abuse to anyone.

The Court, presided over by His Honour Stanley Adjei, delivered the verdict on Friday, July 24, 2026, after a full trial and found Kwame Ti-Zaaelcuu guilty of incest and threat of death.

In addition to the custodial sentence, the court directed the Department of Social Welfare in Lawra to provide counselling and psychosocial support for the survivor.

The Upper West Regional Police Command commended the investigators and prosecutor for their professionalism and commitment, which led to the successful prosecution of the case.

The Command has also encouraged the public to promptly report all forms of sexual and domestic abuse to the Police to ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice and survivors receive the needed support.
