The Force Commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Major General Diodato Abagnara, has paid a solidarity visit to the Ghanaian Battalion (GHANBATT) headquarters following the recent missile attack on the camp.
According to a Facebook post by the Ghana Armed Forces on Thursday, March 19, the visit was to assess the extent of damage caused by the rocket strike.
During the visit, Major General Abagnara commended the Ghanaian troops for their professionalism, discipline, and resilience under extreme conditions.
He also assured them of the mission’s continued commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all peacekeepers operating in the area.
The Commanding Officer of GHANBATT 92, Lieutenant Colonel Evans Yaw Mensah Komedjah, expressed appreciation for the visit, noting that it had significantly boosted the morale of the troops following the incident.
The attack, which occurred on Friday, March 6, 2026, left four Ghanaian peacekeepers with varying degrees of injuries and caused damage to several accommodation facilities within the camp. GHANBATT personnel, however, mounted a swift emergency response.
The incident comes amid renewed cross-border hostilities in southern Lebanon, where the armed group Hezbollah has been exchanging fire with the Israel Defence Forces following heightened tensions in the region.
Meanwhile, one of the soldiers, Lance Corporal Albert Abrefa Busia, who was critically injured, has successfully undergone surgery and is responding to treatment”.
