Frank Davies, Lawyer for former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has indicated that any attempt by Ghanaian authorities to extradite his client from the United States will likely face legal challenges.

According to Mr Davies, the former finance minister intends to contest any extradition proceedings initiated to compel his return to Ghana over corruption-related allegations.

The development follows reports that Mr Ofori-Atta is seeking permanent residency in the United States rather than returning to Ghana, where he believes he may not receive a fair trial.

Speaking on Channel One Newsroom on Sunday, March 15, 2026, Mr Davies confirmed that the government has initiated steps toward an extradition request but stressed that the process would be contested through legal channels.

“The government has put in an extradition request. Following from that will be an extradition proceedings. So one way or the other, there is every indication that this matter will be contested. So, when we get there we will cross,” he said.

Mr Davies further suggested that the intention behind the extradition move is to secure Mr Ofori-Atta’s return to Ghana to face the allegations leveled against him.

“I believe the intention of the extradition is to have Ken removed from the US and be brought down to Ghana,” he added.

Mr Ofori-Atta has recently come under scrutiny over corruption-related claims tied to his tenure as Ghana’s finance minister, though details of the alleged offences and any formal charges have yet to be fully disclosed publicly.

The case is expected to attract significant legal attention if formal extradition proceedings commence in the United States, as such processes often involve lengthy court hearings Frank Davies, and diplomatic considerations.
