The West Gonja Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Yakubu Yussif, has called on residents to adopt proper sanitation practices to ensure a clean and healthy environment.
Speaking in Damongo during Eid al-Fitr celebrations, Mr Yussif emphasised collective responsibility, urging the public to avoid behaviours that contribute to environmental degradation.
He also appealed to the youth to shun illegal drug use and other harmful practices, stressing that discipline is essential for community development.
“Take sanitation issues seriously within the municipality. I want to also use this opportunity to appeal to every citizen of this municipality to refrain from drug abuse, especially the drug menace affecting our youth and destroying their future. I want to call on them to stop,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Yussif disclosed that preparations are at an advanced stage for the sod-cutting ceremony of a new 24-hour economy market, which will be constructed at the site of the existing daily market.
He explained that the decision follows extensive consultations with stakeholders, who agreed on the proposed location for the project.
Some Muslim celebrants who spoke to Channel One News after the Eid prayers expressed joy and gratitude at completing a month of fasting and prayers.
