The Action Alliance Party (AAP) has called for an independent investigation into allegations surrounding the use of private resources for presidential travel, stressing the need for transparency and adherence to constitutional principles.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, March 30, 2026, AAP National Chairman, Nazir Abdul-Rahaman Darlington, addressed ongoing discussions about President John Dramani Mahama’s use of his brother Ibrahim Mahama’s private jet for official and international trips.
“While the President’s travels must continue uninterrupted, any arrangement involving private resources must be subjected to proper scrutiny to ensure no undue influence or misuse of state authority,” Darlington said.
“The public deserves clarity on how such arrangements are made, and the process must be fully transparent,” he added.
He noted that the presidential jet, the Dassault Falcon 900, acquired in 2010, has reportedly been declared unfit for service, leaving the state with limited options for official travel.
“The inability of the presidential jet to fly should not halt essential government activities. However, even acts of goodwill, such as a citizen providing their private jet, must be evaluated to maintain public trust,” he said.
The AAP also criticised political attacks and deflections from opposition parties, calling instead for evidence-based discussions and accountability.
“This is not about personalities or politics. It is about protecting state resources and maintaining the integrity of governance,” Darlington emphasised.
The party urged the government to initiate an independent probe to ensure that such arrangements are conducted in line with legal and ethical standards, thereby reinforcing confidence in democratic institutions.
