Member of Parliament for Asawase and Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has distributed over 10,000 mono desks to schools in his constituency as part of efforts to address the persistent furniture deficit in classrooms.
The intervention is expected to improve teaching and learning conditions, with many schools in the area struggling with inadequate seating arrangements for students.
In addition to the desks, the Minister also provided more than 100 industrial sewing machines and start-up kits to hairdressers and tailors, aimed at promoting vocational skills development and supporting small-scale entrepreneurship.
Speaking on the sidelines of the presentation on Friday April 3, Mr. Mubarak stressed the importance of equipping young people with practical skills, noting that such initiatives are critical to tackling unemployment at the grassroots level.
He explained that while government continues to create job opportunities, it cannot absorb the growing number of graduates entering the job market each year, making skills training and self-employment increasingly essential.
The Minister further encouraged beneficiaries to make good use of the support provided, assuring residents of his continued commitment to rolling out targeted interventions to improve livelihoods in the Asawase constituency.
“We will also have an Islamic cooperative union that will be supporting them, so that when you need a start-up for yourself,”he said.
