Individuals believed to be military personnel have demolished a mosque at Adamukrom, a suburb of Millennium City in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region, leaving members of the Islamic community in shock.

The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, April 28, when a group of about 50 armed men, said to be in military uniforms, stormed the community and pulled down the mosque, which was near completion.

According to residents, the group, allegedly led by a senior officer identified as Frank Worlanyo, held mosque leaders at gunpoint while an excavator brought to the scene was used to demolish the structure.

However, there has been no official confirmation from the military or any security agency regarding the identities of those involved in the operation.

The demolition was carried out without any clear legal authorisation, residents said.

The incident has sparked fear and anger in the community, with residents describing it as distressing and alleging that it is not the first time they have faced intimidation.

Community members are calling on the Inspector General of Police and the Ministry of the Interior to investigate the matter and bring clarity to the circumstances surrounding the demolition.

“I was reading the Quran after salat when I saw the military officers coming. There were many. They entered my shop and seized my phone and that of my wife while I was attempting to go and inform the Chief. Their leader, known as Frank Worlanyo, held me at gunpoint and supervised the demolition. It was around 5:50 am

“We are appealing to the IGP and authorities to intervene. We have become terrified as a result of what happened here this morning,” one resident said.
