The Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has announced that passenger rail services on the 15-kilometre Kojokrom–Sekondi–Takoradi line will resume operations on Friday, April 24, after being suspended since 2023.
Speaking to Citi News during an inspection of railway redevelopment works on the Kojokrom–Manso line on Thursday, April 23, the Minister said the relaunch forms part of President John Dramani Mahama’s ‘Reset Agenda’ for the railway sector.
“The lack of care and maintenance of the Kojokrom–Sekondi–Takoradi line was brought to a close somewhere in 2023-2024. Due to the goodwill of the directive by President John Dramani Mahama to the Railway Authority and me, we’ve repaired and revamped that railway line.
“We intend to relaunch it [Friday, April 24], so that it will offer passenger services to people in and around Kojokrom-Takoradi Municipality,” he announced.
He also disclosed that the Ministry will, by the end of April, settle all salary arrears owed to railway workers.
“We have paid 8 months of the salary arrears we inherited, and by the end of this month [April], we will clear all arrears for Railway Workers,” he assured.
He explained that the rail will connect people and goods in the area.
