The Savannah Regional Minister, Salisu Be-Awuribe, has signed contracts for the construction of modern 24-hour economy markets across all seven Municipal and District Assemblies in the Savannah Region, in a move officials say will accelerate economic transformation.
The projects will be carried out in Damongo in the West Gonja Municipality, Bole, Buipe, Salaga, Kpalbe, Daboya and Sawla, covering key commercial centres across the region.
Be-Awuribe said the initiative forms part of a structured development model designed to modernize trading activities and improve local economic systems.
“These markets are part of a broader strategy to transform how trade is conducted in the Savannah Region and to ensure that our local economies are more resilient and competitive,” he said.
He explained that the projects have been grouped into four distinct design categories, with top-tier infrastructure earmarked for major commercial hubs including Bole District, Central Gonja District (Buipe), and West Gonja District (Damongo).
According to him, the classification reflects the varying economic importance and trading volumes of the beneficiary areas.
The minister also sought to reassure contractors about funding, stating that the government is committed to making prompt payments to ensure timely completion of the projects.
“Funds for these projects are being channelled through the District Assemblies, which now have enhanced financial capacity to support development execution,” he said.
The initiative is expected to boost local commerce, create jobs and support the government’s broader 24-hour economy agenda, which aims to expand productivity and economic activity beyond traditional working hours.
