The Board Chair of Amnesty International Ghana, Francis Nyantakyi, has called for stronger global efforts to tackle increasing human rights violations and deepening inequalities across the world.
Speaking at the launch of the Amnesty International State of the World’s Human Rights Report 2025/2026 in Accra on Thursday, May 7, he said the report paints a worrying picture of the global human rights situation despite some progress made in various countries.
According to him, the report highlights persistent challenges such as abuses linked to conflicts, restrictions on civic freedoms, discrimination, and worsening economic conditions affecting vulnerable populations.
“In the 2025 State of the World Human Rights Report, we realise that the human rights situation in the world is deteriorating. If you come to Ghana, though we have made some progress, there are still challenges,” he stated.
Also addressing the event, the Member of Parliament for Odotobri and member of Parliament’s Human Rights Committee, Anthony Mmieh, reaffirmed Parliament’s commitment to protecting and promoting human rights in Ghana.
He described the report as comprehensive, noting that it captures key trends, challenges, and progress made in the area of human rights.
“This is a very detailed report for 2025, which has outlined the trends, the challenges, and progress so far. It concerns everybody, and as we all know, human rights are a guaranteed right. Everybody deserves it, and that is what as parliamentarians we are going to push for,” he said.
