Confusion has erupted in the Ho Zongo community in the Volta Region following attempts to reopen the Ho Central Mosque after months of closure stemming from a shooting incident at the facility.
Tensions reportedly resurfaced after one faction within the community rejected the recognition of Alhaji Muniru as Imam of the mosque despite his endorsement by the National Chief Imam.
Efforts by authorities, traditional leaders and opinion leaders to restore calm and facilitate the reopening of the mosque have so far failed, with the facility remaining closed amid unresolved leadership disputes.
Some leaders within the Zongo community insist the matter had already been settled through the courts but say disagreements persist over who should officially lead the mosque.
Speaking on the matter, Ahmed Abass Amegbor said the community continued to seek a peaceful resolution to the impasse.
Meanwhile, the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has indicated that the Ho Central Mosque will remain closed as authorities work to maintain peace and stability in the area.
