The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, has called for peace, unity, and interfaith harmony as Muslims in Ghana and across the world prepare to celebrate Eid al-Adha on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
In a statement signed by his Personal Assistant, Dr. Abubakari Mohammed Marzuq Azindoo, and issued on Monday, May 25, 2026, ahead of the celebration, the revered Islamic leader extended Eid greetings to the Muslim Ummah and urged humanity to embrace love, reconciliation, and sacrifice at a time the world is facing numerous challenges.
According to him, Eid Al-Adha is not only a period of celebration but also a time for reflection, piety and moral renewal.
“As the name suggests, Eid Al-Adha is a festivity of sacrifice and an opportunity to reaffirm our faith in Allah,” the Chief Imam stated.
He explained that the true meaning of the festival goes beyond the slaughtering of animals, stressing that Allah values righteousness and devotion more than the physical sacrifice itself.
Referencing Quran Chapter 22 Verse 37, he noted that the virtues of Eid become meaningful only when they inspire positive behavioural change and moral discipline in society.
The National Chief Imam also described Eid Al-Adha as an important symbol of interfaith harmony among Muslims, Christians, and Jews, pointing to the story of Prophet Abraham and his son Ishmael as a shared foundation among the Abrahamic religions.
He therefore urged members of the different faiths to use the occasion to strengthen peaceful coexistence and national unity.
“The Eid is another opportunity to reaffirm commitment to interfaith harmony, which remains a cornerstone of national unity and global stability,” he said.
Touching on global conflicts, the Chief Imam expressed concern over growing violence and instability in parts of the world, including the war in Iran and other conflict zones.
He called on world leaders to promote peace, forgiveness, reconciliation and justice instead of aggression and division.
“We cannot surrender our God-given humanity to modern-day barbarity in the name of supremacy,” he cautioned.
