No accommodation challenges for Ghanaian pilgrims – Hajj Advance Team

The Pilgrim Affairs Office of Ghana has dismissed reports suggesting that Ghanaian pilgrims participating in the 2026 Hajj are facing poor accommodation conditions in Saudi Arabia.

The clarification follows viral videos on social media in which some pilgrims expressed concerns about their accommodation arrangements in Makkah, triggering public concern back home.

Speaking to Citi News, the leader of Ghana’s advance team to Saudi Arabia, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Tanko, said all logistical and accommodation arrangements had been fully addressed and the pilgrimage was progressing smoothly.

“It is going on smoothly. We don’t have any major problem as of now,” he stated.

He explained that accommodation had been fully secured in advance for all Ghanaian pilgrims, covering key holy sites including Madinah, Makkah, Mina and Arafat.

“Before we came to Saudi Arabia, before we left Ghana we paid for everybody’s accommodation in Saudi and both in Medina at the entry point and then in Mecca and then to Mina and Arafat, everybody,” he said.

He added that pilgrims in Madinah are accommodated in hotels, while those in Makkah are also lodged in hotels, with tent arrangements provided in Mina in line with standard Hajj arrangements.

“In Medina you have a hotel, in Mecca you have a hotel but in Mina it’s tents. Everybody’s entitled to a mattress and we’ve done that,” he explained.

Alhaji Ibn Tanko further assured that all Ghanaian pilgrims had been duly catered for and were being transported to Mina as part of ongoing Hajj rites.

“We will pass all our people to Mina as I speak. So there’s no problem,” he added.
