Fire has destroyed parts of the Nima Market in Accra after firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service battled a blaze at the market for several hours.

The Service announced the incident in a brief update shared on its official Facebook page on Tuesday, stating that rigorous firefighting operations are currently underway at the market.

“HAPPENING NOW: RIGOROUS FIREFIGHTING UNDERWAY AT NIMA MARKET,” the post read.

Details about the cause of the fire, the extent of damage, or possible casualties are yet to be confirmed.

Personnel of the Fire Service are currently at the scene working to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures and shops.

Further updates are expected as firefighting efforts continue.
