Businessman Ibrahim Mahama has extended financial support to Emmanuel Asamoah, a Ghanaian victim of xenophobic attacks in South Africa, by offering him GH¢200,000 as seed capital to help him rebuild his life and establish a business in Ghana.
According to Fred Duhoe, media relations officer at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Ibrahim Mahama also assured Emmanuel Asamoah of setting up a cement and hardware distribution depot for him in Accra as part of efforts to support his reintegration and economic stability.
Ibrahim Mahama further encouraged Ghanaians currently living in South Africa to consider returning home, assuring them of support and opportunities back in Ghana.
In a meeting with Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Benjamin Quashie and the victim, Emmanuel Asamoah, on Tuesday, May 12, the businessman urged returnees to take advantage of the opportunities available in Ghana.
“Ambassador, if there are any other people there, let them all come back home. There are so many opportunities here for them.”
The development comes amid renewed discussions about the safety and welfare of African migrants living in parts of South Africa, where xenophobic attacks have, over the years, affected several foreign nationals, including Ghanaians.
