President John Dramani Mahama has assured that additional equipment will be installed in August 2026 to end the removal of belts and shoes by travellers at Ghana’s airports.
He announced ongoing improvements to Ghana’s air travel systems, including the rollout of new technologies aimed at easing passenger screening processes at the country’s airports.
“In August, we’re receiving and installing new equipment to end the inconvenience of removing shoes and belts at our airports,” he assured
Speaking during the official launch of the e-visa platform on Monday, May 25, the President said the government is upgrading airport infrastructure to enhance efficiency and passenger convenience.
“We continue to improve the travel experience. As I speak, new 3D scanners are being installed at Terminals 2 and 3. These scanners will eliminate the need to remove laptops and liquids from hand luggage when you travel,” he said.
According to the President, the e-visa initiative forms part of broader efforts to build a more accessible, technology-driven and citizen-centred public service system in Ghana.
He further noted that Ghana’s latest policy aligns with the country’s Pan-African ideals and places it among African countries such as Rwanda, Kenya, Benin and Seychelles that have adopted progressive visa policies to promote African integration and mobility.
