Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has paid tribute to mothers across Ghana and around the world in a heartfelt Mother’s Day message, praising their strength, sacrifice, resilience and unconditional love.

In a Facebook post shared on Sunday, May 10, the Vice President acknowledged the critical role mothers play in holding families, communities and economies together, describing their dedication as a constant source of inspiration.

The Vice President praised the sacrifices of mothers, stating that they continue to serve as the backbone of society through their resilience and commitment to their families and communities.

“Today, we recognise the strength, sacrifice, wisdom, and unconditional love of mothers across Ghana and around the world. Mothers hold families, communities, and, in many cases, entire economies together. Their resilience and dedication continue to inspire.”

The Vice President also used the occasion to highlight some of the government’s initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of women and mothers in the country.

She noted that the government remains committed to promoting empowerment, dignity and opportunity for women through deliberate social and economic interventions.

The Vice President further indicated that investments are being made in skills training, apprenticeship programmes, access to finance and the nationwide provision of free sanitary pads for schoolgirls.

She stressed that these interventions are intended to support women economically while also improving opportunities for young girls across the country.

“As a government, we remain committed to improving the lives of women and mothers through deliberate interventions that promote empowerment, dignity, and opportunity. Through initiatives like the 24-hour markets and the Women’s Development Bank, we are working to create a more inclusive and supportive Ghana. We are also investing in skills training, apprenticeship programmes, access to finance, and the nationwide provision of free sanitary pads for schoolgirls.”

In her concluding remarks, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang extended appreciation to all women who play maternal roles in the lives of others, including grandmothers and guardians.

“On this special day, I acknowledge every mother, grandmother, guardian, and woman who plays a maternal role in the lives of others. Your love and service do not go unnoticed,” she wrote.
