The Deputy Attorney General, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, has revealed that former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo filed three separate cases at the High Court challenging her removal from office, in addition to multiple proceedings before the Supreme Court and the ECOWAS Court of Justice.
According to him, one of the High Court cases was later withdrawn, while efforts are underway to consolidate the two remaining suits.
His comments come on the back of the ECOWAS Court’s dismissal of an application filed by Justice Torkornoo challenging her removal as Chief Justice and Justice of Ghana’s Supreme Court.
On June 24, the ECOWAS Court unanimously rejected the application after Justice Torkornoo argued that her rights had been violated during the process leading to her removal. The case drew significant public attention amid ongoing debate over judicial independence, due process, and constitutional governance in Ghana.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, June 27, 2026, Dr. Srem-Sai outlined the scope of the legal actions initiated by the former Chief Justice following her removal.
“Quite apart from the five Supreme Court cases and the ECOWAS case, Her Ladyship filed three cases in the High Court to challenge her removal,” he wrote.
He disclosed that one of the three High Court cases was discontinued last year.
“Sometime last year, Her Ladyship abandoned one of the three cases,” he stated.
Dr. Srem-Sai further revealed that Justice Torkornoo has now taken steps to merge the two outstanding High Court cases into a single proceeding.
“On Wednesday, June 24, Her Lady filed a motion to consolidate the two remaining cases. Da yie,” he added.
