Six persons have been arrested and fined by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) for indiscriminate refuse dumping.
The six, made up of three females and three males, were arrested by a KMA taskforce in the early hours of Monday, May 11, while dumping refuse at the Otumfuo Roundabout in the Central Business District (CBD).
Public Relations Officer for KMA, Henrietta Afia Konadu Aboagye, explained that the suspects were arraigned before Court Two at the Prempeh Assembly Hall, where they pleaded guilty to the charges.
Each person was fined 100 penalty units, with each penalty unit valued at GH¢12.
Out of the six, five were able to pay their fines, while one, Ebenezer Atakora, failed to do so and will serve a 10-day prison sentence.
The PRO urged the public to desist from indiscriminate dumping and encouraged residents to record individuals who violate sanitation laws so that appropriate sanctions can be enforced to help keep the environment clean.
