President John Dramani Mahama says the government will announce the second phase of the Big Push infrastructure programme during the presentation of the 2026 budget in November this year.
According to the President, the next phase of the programme will include additional road projects across the country, including roads within the Savannah Region.
President Mahama assured traditional leaders and residents of the Savannah region that, as part of his resetting Ghana Tour, their road concerns have been captured under the upcoming phase of the programme aimed at accelerating infrastructure development nationwide.
“There is a second phase that we are scoping. It will be announced by the Minister of Finance when he presents the budget in November this year to Parliament. I can assure the chiefs and my fathers that “your roads are contained in the Big Push project for next year.
“You will hear it, it will be announced in the budget in November. Early next year, we will have the contractors on the ground working on the roads,” he said.
He added that the contractors are expected to move to the site early next year to begin work on new road projects under the next phase of the Big Push programme.
In his address, he said the government is already undertaking works on about 2,000 kilometres of roads across the country under the first phase of the initiative, funded through local resources.
“I commissioned the start of the Big Push project several months ago. Since then, work is going on about 2,000 kilometers of roads all around the country, all at the same time, all paid with our own resources, our Ghanaian cities. We are paying for all those roads ourselves,” he added.
