The Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh says the government is implementing measures to address the no-bed syndrome and improve emergency healthcare services across the country.

Kwabena Mintah Akandoh noted that the government has established a digital command centre at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital to monitor bed availability and improve referrals among health facilities.

He added that the initiative will help ensure patients are referred quickly to facilities with available beds and receive timely medical care.

“With the no bed syndrome, a lot of steps have been put in place to deal with this matter. We’re using an IT system. At the moment, we have established what we call a command centre at the Greater Accra regional hospital, where we will have visibility of all beds.

“We are piloting from the regional level to the teaching hospitals. So that if I sit in my office, I will know where there are beds and where there are no beds,” he said.

He said added that plans are also underway to operationalise the Critical Care and Emergency Centre at Burma Camp.
