The Upper West Regional Minister, Charles Lwanga Puozuing, says security in the region has improved significantly, with notable reductions in armed robbery and illegal mining activities.
He made the remarks during an interview on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Tuesday, June 23.
According to him, the Upper West Region is currently calm following a series of interventions by the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), which he chairs, to address key security concerns.
“We have through the Regional Security Council, which I am the chairman, put in place measures to curb two major things: armed robbery and illegal mining,” he stated.
Mr. Puozuing said the measures have yielded positive results, particularly in reducing armed robbery incidents.
“With armed robbery, it has reduced drastically from when I took over till now,” he said.
He further noted that illegal mining activities have also declined, especially along the Black Volta enclave.
“With the illegal mining, it is also much better down than initially, especially along the Black Volta,” he added.
The Minister maintained that the overall security situation in the region is now more stable compared to previous years, crediting the improvements to sustained security interventions and coordinated enforcement efforts.
