The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has pitched a range of investment opportunities to British businesses, urging them to channel capital into hotels, tourism infrastructure, the creative economy and the flagship Marine Drive Project.
Speaking at the Ghana-UK Investment Summit in London, the Minister said Ghana’s tourism and creative arts sector is increasingly becoming a key pillar of economic growth and presents significant opportunities for investors seeking long-term returns.
“Ghana is a gateway for tourism and creative investment,” she told participants, describing the sector as “one of the most dynamic engines of national growth, attracting global visitors, diaspora investors, and international partners.”
A major opportunity, according to the Minister, lies in Ghana’s hospitality sector, where a shortage of quality accommodation continues to constrain the country’s ability to host large-scale international events.
“We have a huge deficit of rooms that can accommodate people when we have conferences and so on,” she said.
“It is a matter of perhaps a little bit of embarrassment for me that sometimes when I’m offered conferences that can house about 5,000 people and 10,000 people, it is difficult to accept it because I know that I do have a deficit.”
She said the shortfall presents a compelling business case for hotel developers and investors.
“If you’re invested in the hospitality industry, especially where hotels are concerned, you will be making the returns before you can blink,” she stated.
Beyond hospitality, Abla Gomashie highlighted opportunities in heritage and ecotourism, noting that many of Ghana’s tourism assets require complementary investments in accommodation, restaurants and visitor facilities to maximise their economic value.
The Minister also called for investment in Ghana’s growing creative economy, particularly in film, music and fashion, where demand for infrastructure continues to outpace supply.
“What we are a short supply of is the facility, the studios, the capital to support the industry,” she said.
She further appealed for investment in a world-class tourism and hospitality training institution, arguing that such a facility could serve the broader ECOWAS market.
Another key investment opportunity, she noted, is the Marine Drive Project, a major redevelopment initiative along Accra’s coastline.
“The Marine Drive Project is a landmark initiative designed to transform Accra’s waterfront into a vibrant hub for tourism, culture, and investment,” she said.
The Minister described the project as a partnership between government and the private sector, adding that it offers opportunities across hospitality, retail, real estate and entertainment while supporting job creation and tourism growth.
