Brazil and Morocco shared the points in a 1-1 draw in their opening Group C match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Saturday, June 13, as the Atlas Lions once again underlined their credentials against one of football’s traditional powers.

Morocco struck first through Ismael Saibari, who capped an impressive opening spell with a composed finish in the 21st minute after being played through by Brahim Diaz.

The Africans dominated much of the early exchanges, unsettling a Brazil side making its tournament debut under coach Carlo Ancelotti.

Brazil responded 11 minutes later through Vinicius Junior, whose moment of individual brilliance brought the five-time world champions level. The winger cut inside from the left before unleashing a powerful effort into the roof of the net, rescuing Brazil after a difficult start.

Morocco continued to look dangerous throughout the contest, with midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi impressing in a disciplined performance that helped the Atlas Lions control large stretches of the midfield battle. Goalkeeper Yassine Bounou also produced several key saves to preserve the draw as Brazil pushed for a winner in the second half.

Despite flashes of quality from Vinicius and Raphinha, Brazil struggled to establish sustained control, with concerns remaining over their midfield cohesion and defensive organisation. Morocco, meanwhile, looked composed and confident, building on the momentum of their historic run to the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup.

The result leaves both teams with a point after the opening round of Group C fixtures. Morocco will next face Scotland, while Brazil take on Haiti as both sides seek their first victory of the tournament.
