The Ghana High Commission in Ottawa has expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for providing FIFA World Cup match tickets to Ghanaians living in Canada to support the Black Stars.

In a public notice dated June 16, 2026, the High Commission said the tickets, which were made available through the President’s intervention, had been successfully distributed to members of the Ghanaian community in Canada, enabling them to rally behind the national team during its FIFA World Cup campaign.

“The High Commission of the Republic of Ghana in Ottawa is pleased to inform that the tickets generously provided by H.E. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, for Ghanaians in Canada to support the Black Stars at the FIFA World Cup have been distributed,” the statement said.

The High Commission also thanked the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, for their support in facilitating the initiative.

“Special appreciation is also conveyed to the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, for their invaluable support and efforts in facilitating this initiative,” the notice added.

According to the statement, the tickets were distributed through recognised Ghanaian community associations and a random selection process involving individuals who had registered their interest through a database compiled by the mission.

“It is worth noting that the distribution of the tickets was undertaken through recognised Ghanaian Community Associations as well as a fair random selection process from our compatriots who registered with their emails in the data collected,” the High Commission stated.

The mission noted that due to the limited number of tickets available, it was unable to satisfy all requests received from members of the Ghanaian community.

“Given the number of tickets available, it was regrettably not possible to accommodate all requests received. However, the understanding, patience, and cooperation demonstrated by members of the community is deeply appreciated,” it said.

The High Commission further indicated that should additional tickets become available, further distributions would be undertaken through the same channels in collaboration with Ghanaian community associations across Canada.

“Should additional tickets become available, further distributions will be undertaken through the established channels in collaboration with Ghanaian Community Associations across Canada,” the statement noted.

It added that future beneficiaries would continue to be selected through a transparent and random process from the database of requests received via email.

As the Black Stars begin their World Cup campaign, the High Commission urged Ghanaians in Canada to continue supporting the national team.

“As the Black Stars commence their FIFA World Cup campaign, all Ghanaians are encouraged to continue rallying behind the team and to demonstrate the unity, patriotism and national pride for which Ghana is renowned,” the statement said.
