The General Manager of Citi FM and Channel One TV, Bernard Koku Avle, has encouraged graduates of Academic City University to use their knowledge and skills to address real-world challenges and contribute to national development.
He made the call while delivering the keynote address at the university’s 2026 graduation ceremony in Accra, on Friday, June 5, where he urged the graduating class to uphold the values of excellence, integrity, and innovation.
Mr Avle shared insights from his experience in the media industry, recalling how a young team at Citi FM was able to compete successfully against established broadcasters through innovation, discipline, and belief in fresh talent.
He commended Academic City University for its innovation-driven approach to education and its focus on emerging fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Robotics Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, and Unmanned Aerial Systems Engineering.
He also praised the university’s practical contributions to problem-solving, including student-led innovations during the COVID-19 pandemic, such as the development of low-cost ventilators.
Addressing the graduates, Mr Avle urged them to apply their learning beyond the classroom, noting that their real test would be in solving societal problems such as flooding, corruption, poor urban planning, and ineffective leadership.
“Always start with what you have been given. Translate knowledge gained from Academic City into insights that will solve problems,” he urged.
He encouraged them to collaborate across disciplines, think creatively, and prioritise purpose over profit in their career choices.
He concluded by urging the graduates to become agents of change and to use their education to create lasting impact in Ghana, Africa, and beyond.
