The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has warmly welcomed the second batch of 345 Ghanaians evacuated from South Africa, assuring them of the government’s unwavering support as they begin a new chapter back home.

The returnees arrived at the Accra International Airport on Saturday, June 6, where they were received by government officials led by the Foreign Affairs Minister.

Their arrival forms part of an ongoing evacuation exercise by the government aimed at assisting Ghanaians affected by recent developments in South Africa.

Addressing the evacuees, Ablakwa delivered a message of hope, encouragement, and reassurance, emphasising that the government views them as valuable citizens with immense potential and contributions to make toward national development.

The minister dispelled negative perceptions that may have been associated with their return, stressing that the government does not see them as burdens to society but rather as individuals deserving of dignity, respect, and opportunities to rebuild their lives.

“You are not any of those misguided elements they have tried to portray you. To us, you are not troublemakers. To us, you are not criminals. To us, you are not people who are destitute, who are unwanted, and who do not have anything to offer. To us, you are treasures. You are special.”

Ablakwa further assured the evacuees that the government remains committed to supporting their reintegration into society.

The minister reiterated that every Ghanaian, regardless of where they may have lived or the circumstances under which they returned home, remains an important part of the nation’s future.

Meanwhile, the evacuation operation is expected to continue, with another flight carrying more than 300 passengers scheduled to arrive in Ghana on Sunday, June 7.
