The Volta Region is poised to deliver the first fully completed road project under the government’s Big Push infrastructure programme, with the rehabilitation of the Penyi–Denu Road nearing completion.

Roads and Highways Minister Governs Kwame Agbodza announced the milestone on Thursday, July 16, during President John Dramani Mahama’s inspection of ongoing road projects in the Volta Region as part of his Resetting Ghana tour.

He said construction on the Penyi–Denu Road has reached 75.68% completion, making it the most advanced project under the initiative.

The minister further disclosed that rehabilitation works on the Kpetoe–Ave Afiadenyigba Road (Lot 7) are also progressing steadily, with physical completion currently standing at 45%.

He expressed confidence that both projects would significantly improve connectivity and boost economic activity in the region upon completion.
Addressing stakeholders during the inspection, President Mahama said the Big Push programme is gathering momentum across the country, with approximately 2,500 kilometres of roads currently under construction nationwide.

He noted that the initiative forms part of the government’s broader agenda to modernise critical infrastructure and improve transportation networks.

The President expressed satisfaction with the pace of work on the projects inspected, commending contractors for keeping to their schedules and, in some instances, progressing ahead of planned timelines. He urged them to maintain the momentum to ensure the timely delivery of the projects.
Touching on the programme’s financing, President Mahama disclosed that the government allocated more than GH¢13 billion during the initial phase of the Big Push initiative. He added that an additional GH¢30.8 billion has been committed this year, bringing the total government investment in the programme to over GH¢40 billion.
