The Nungua District Police Command has launched an investigation into an alleged assault involving suspected police officers following a complaint by a resident of Teshie in Accra.
The investigation follows a report that a reporter and staff member of the Graphic Communications Group Ltd (GCGL), Alidu Mahama, was allegedly assaulted by some officers from the Nungua Police Station after he was mistaken for an armed robber at GREDA Estate in Accra.
Mahama reported the incident to the Police on July 14, 2026, with visible injuries.
In a statement issued on Friday, July 17, 2026, the Accra Regional Police Command said preliminary investigations had commenced and that a statement had been taken from the complainant.
“A Police medical report form has been issued to facilitate his medical examination and treatment to support ongoing investigations,” the statement said.
The Command said efforts were underway to identify the officers allegedly involved in the incident for questioning and any further action that may be required.
It assured the public that the matter was being handled with the seriousness it deserved and that any officer found culpable would face appropriate sanctions under the law and Police disciplinary procedures.
“The Accra Regional Police Command assures the public that the matter is being treated with the utmost seriousness and that any officer found culpable will be dealt with in accordance with the law and Police disciplinary procedures,” it said.
