Zijin Golden Ridge Limited has donated 13 air conditioning units worth GH¢83,125 to the Abirem Government Hospital to support healthcare delivery and improve the operating conditions of critical medical equipment at the facility.
The company said the donation forms part of its ongoing commitment to supporting development in its host communities, with the air conditioners expected to be installed in key areas of the hospital where temperature control is essential for the efficient functioning of sensitive medical equipment.
Speaking during the presentation, the Medical Superintendent of the Abirem Government Hospital, Dr. Patrick Atta Larbi Sakyi, praised Zijin for its continued support to the facility, describing the company’s interventions as significant to the hospital’s growth.
“Zijin has been so helpful to the Abirem Government Hospital in terms of logistics, equipment and infrastructure. This hospital was a health centre previously, but through the support of Zijin, it has now become a fully-fledged hospital,” he said.
Dr. Sakyi explained that several medical devices, including laboratory analysers and diagnostic machines, require stable temperatures to function effectively, adding that the donation would help protect the equipment and improve healthcare services.
The company’s Social Responsibility Manager, Paul Suchmann Apenu, said supporting the hospital was part of Zijin’s commitment to improving the wellbeing of communities affected by its operations.
“It excites the company to provide support to the district hospital because this is the only district hospital within our mine host communities,” he said.
“We considered the request and believed supporting the hospital with these air conditioners would contribute significantly to the efficient operation and maintenance of critical medical equipment and ultimately improve healthcare delivery,” he added.
Zijin Golden Ridge Limited said the donation adds to a number of interventions it has undertaken in the areas of healthcare, education, infrastructure and socio-economic development within its host communities.
The company said it would continue to collaborate with stakeholders to support initiatives that improve the living conditions of residents in communities where it operates.
