The British Council has commended Channel One TV and Citi FM for the successful launch of the 2026 Literacy Challenge, describing the initiative as a key contribution to the promotion of literacy, reading culture and educational development among young people in Ghana.

Speaking on behalf of the organisation, Project Support Officer at the British Council, Adjei Kwarteng, expressed the Council’s support for the programme, noting that it aligns with efforts to strengthen education and foster long-term national development.

“On behalf of the British Council, I wish to express our sincere solidarity and support for this important initiative,” he said.

The competition, he stated remains a critical foundation for educational advancement, social inclusion and national development, stressing the importance of sustained collaboration among stakeholders in the education sector.

Mr. Kwarteng further highlighted the role of structured programmes such as the Literacy Challenge in improving reading culture and enhancing learning outcomes among students across the country.

According to him, the initiative reflects a strong commitment by organisers and partners to educational excellence, adding that the British Council is proud to be associated with the programme.

He also praised the expansion of the initiative beyond Accra, terming it as a positive step towards inclusivity and equal access to educational opportunities for students across all regions.

“We are ever committed to supporting this, and our facility is open. We are ever ready to support this initiative,” he added.

This year’s Literacy Challenge requires participants to write, in not less than 600 words, a letter to the Minister of Education as a youth consultant, discussing the advantages and disadvantages of artificial intelligence in education and advising on how Ghana can effectively integrate AI into basic schools while ensuring inclusivity for rural and underserved communities.

The winner of the competition will receive GHS10,000 and a laptop after the final quiz stage. Entries must be submitted by July 20, 2026, to P.O. Box GP 14123, Accra Central, or delivered to the Channel One TV premises at Tesano, Accra. For more information, participants can call 0205973973.

The 2026 edition is powered by Channel One TV and Citi FM and sponsored by Prospectus Ghana Limited, SIC Insurance and Advocate Publishing.
