Ghana has secured the bid to host the 70th UN Tourism Commission for Africa (CAF) Meeting in 2027, marking a major diplomatic and tourism milestone for the country.
The announcement was contained in a Facebook post by the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Ablah Dzifa Gomashie.
In her bid presentation, the Minister expressed gratitude to the Secretary-General of UN Tourism and the host Minister for Tourism and Culture of Seychelles, while outlining Ghana’s strong case to host the event.
She said Ghana’s bid was driven by its commitment to positioning tourism as a catalyst for sustainable development, economic transformation, cultural exchange and African integration.
The Minister noted that 2027 presents a unique opportunity as it coincides with Ghana’s 70th Independence Anniversary and the 70th session of the CAF Meeting, giving the event added symbolic significance.
She highlighted Ghana’s reputation as a gateway to Africa, citing its cultural heritage, creative arts industry, tourism attractions and stable democratic environment.
The Minister added that the event would also offer delegates the opportunity to experience Ghana’s festivals, music, dance, cuisine and traditional craftsmanship.
She said the gathering would provide a platform for policymakers, tourism professionals, investors and creatives to reflect on progress and chart a stronger future for tourism development in Africa.
According to her, Ghana intends to use the opportunity to showcase tourism’s role in job creation, cultural preservation and inclusive growth.
She assured that the country is ready to provide the necessary infrastructure, hospitality, security and organisational capacity to host the event successfully.
The 70th UN Tourism Commission for Africa Meeting is expected to bring together stakeholders from across the continent to strengthen cooperation and advance tourism development in Africa.
