Gomoa East: Francis Mensah unveils welfare agenda ahead of NPP polls

Businessman and New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency treasurer, Francis Mensah, has intensified his campaign ahead of the party’s constituency executive elections, outlining a welfare-focused agenda aimed at strengthening grassroots support in the Gomoa East Constituency.

The NPP is scheduled to elect constituency executives nationwide on Saturday, July 11, 2026, as part of its reorganisation efforts ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Supporters of Mr Mensah claim he enjoys the backing of a majority of delegates in the constituency, citing his long-standing involvement in the party at the grassroots level. They also describe him as an experienced party organiser, having previously served as a polling station organiser, polling station chairman and currently as constituency treasurer.

Mr Mensah is contesting the chairmanship position against Nana Fredua Agyemang Prempeh.

A key pillar of Mr Mensah’s campaign is the establishment of a constituency welfare scheme to provide financial support to party members during significant life events, including marriages, bereavement, prolonged hospitalisation and surgery.

Under the proposal, polling station executives would make periodic contributions to a welfare fund, which would be managed by an appointed administrator to support members in times of need.

Speaking during one of his engagements with delegates, Mr Mensah said the initiative was intended to strengthen unity within the constituency.

“The welfare scheme would be established to strengthen the bonds of fellowship within the Gomoa East Constituency and to ensure that no polling station executive or member stands alone in times of need.”

He argued that many party members have often faced personal challenges without support from the party, adding that the proposed scheme would encourage greater commitment to the NPP’s activities.

Beyond the welfare initiative, Mr Mensah has pledged to spearhead the construction of a permanent constituency office through collaboration with party stakeholders. He said Nana Kow Enyinda has offered a parcel of land for the proposed project.

He also promised to empower 10 people from each electoral area in the constituency, saying the initiative would complement the NPP’s broader employment agenda.

In addition, Mr Mensah has pledged to ensure the fair distribution of opportunities related to jobs, contracts and development projects, while strengthening the party’s communications department to improve its outreach and engagement with members.
