Low performance ratings are warning signs for MPs – Mussa Dankwah

The Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwah, says poor performance ratings in the firm’s parliamentary assessments should serve as an early warning to Members of Parliament ahead of the next general election.

His comments follow Global InfoAnalytics’ latest assessment of MPs in selected constituencies across the country, which ranked the Member of Parliament for Nsawam Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, as the top-performing legislator.

Speaking to Citi News, Mr Dankwah said consistently low ratings could signal electoral danger for MPs, particularly when the negative assessments come from supporters of their own political party.

“We assess what the average performance of those MPs are when we last visited them and normally how they have been assessed over the period determines whether they will stay as MPs or go on to lose their seats.

“So it is a warning, it may not be the entire story at the moment but they should not brush it aside. In the end it contributes to them retaining or losing their seats,” he said.

Mr Dankwah added that an MP’s visibility in Parliament, traditional media and on social media can significantly influence how constituents perceive their performance.

“Over the past few months, we have seen Annoh-Dompreh very visible on the floor of Parliament. Also the Tolon MP has been very visible in the media. These days, social media has made it much easier for people to assess their MPs and see how they are doing.

“If you are not visible, you tend to score low marks. It is not always the case that if you are visible, it is an avenue to capitalise on and make yourself popular,” he said.
