The Ashanti Regional National Security Secretariat has arrested a man suspected of engaging in illegal mining activities near the Agenda 111 Hospital project site at Adansi Asokwa.
The suspect, identified as Yussif Ibrahim, is believed to be the owner of the mining site where the illegal activities were allegedly taking place.
He was arrested on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, when officers from the National Security Secretariat visited the area during an inspection exercise.
According to the Secretariat, mining activities were ongoing at the site at the time of the operation, resulting in the arrest of the suspect.
The Ashanti Regional National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Nji Abdallah Umar, said the arrest forms part of efforts to intensify the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, in the region.
He warned that illegal miners operating around the Agenda 111 project site posed a threat to the progress of the facility if not dealt with.
“Even as the reclamation exercise is ongoing, we have still seen some people around. It means that if we are not careful, in the next few days or weeks, you will realise that they have moved onto the premises of Agenda 111 itself,” he said
The Secretariat has, in recent months, intensified operations against illegal mining activities across the Ashanti Region, targeting mining sites and individuals accused of degrading water bodies and farmlands.
