New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman aspirant Paul Afoko has urged members of the party to set aside emotions and embrace a more strategic approach if the party is to recover from its electoral setback and return to government.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Face to Face on Tuesday, July 21, Afoko said the NPP’s current situation demands unity, discipline and clear-headed leadership rather than internal divisions.

According to him, the party has lost significant ground and must work collectively to rebuild ahead of the next general election.

“Our party is in a bad shape. We have lost so much ground. The hole in which we are is deep. We need to come out of it,” he said.

Afoko cautioned party members against allowing personal grievances and emotions to influence decisions, arguing that doing so would weaken the party’s chances of making a successful comeback.

“Let’s unite. Don’t hold any feelings against each other. When you bring emotions into power, you lose power. You have to put emotions aside and work with our heads. We must be strategic,” he stated.

The former NPP National Chairman also said he remained committed to the party despite not serving in any government appointment during the NPP’s time in office.

“I didn’t get any appointment when the party was in power, but let’s hold on to our abiding principles that have glued us together all these years,” he said.

Afoko appealed to party delegates to support his bid for the national chairmanship, stressing that rebuilding the NPP would require the collective effort of members across the country.

“So join me, give me the mandate and also work because I can’t do it alone for us to bring our party together, to bring our party up to win our next general elections,” he added.

Afoko formally announced his intention to contest the NPP National Chairman position, unveiling a campaign centred on reuniting the party, rebuilding its structures and positioning it to reclaim power in the next general election.

He has consistently maintained that the NPP’s focus should be on restoring unity and strengthening its grassroots base rather than assigning blame for its 2024 electoral defeat.
