The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested three suspects, Peace Agbede, Favour Sunday Udo, and Faith Levy, for their alleged involvement in human trafficking and forcing young women into prostitution at Gbane, a suburb of the Talensi District.
Preliminary investigations indicate that suspect Peace Agbede allegedly met one of the victims in Nigeria and promised to help her pursue a career in the Ghanaian movie industry, citing her physical appearance as an advantage. The victim reportedly agreed and followed her to Ghana.
However, upon arrival, the suspect allegedly failed to honour the promise and instead took the victim to a mining site at Gbane-Tongo, where she was coerced into prostitution.
Investigators say the victim was required to pay GH¢400 daily to her alleged trafficker, Peace Agbede.
The victim later became pregnant and gave birth on June 26, 2026. Shortly after, Agbede and her accomplice, Favour Sunday Udo, allegedly visited her and attempted to persuade her to sell the newborn baby for GH¢20,000 to an interested buyer.
A search conducted in the room of the main suspect reportedly led to the discovery of six sales record books bearing names such as Esther, Mary, Bright and Silver, as well as 265 unused condoms.
Police further rescued four female victims aged between 18 and 20.
The suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be arraigned before the court.
