Former Greater Accra Regional Minister Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover has suggested that former Sports Minister and former National DRIP Coordinator Nii Lante Vanderpuye would have performed better in managing Ghana’s sports sector, amid renewed debate over the Black Stars’ World Cup exit.

His comments come in the wake of Ghana’s early elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which has triggered fresh scrutiny of the national team’s management, coaching decisions and overall football administration.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue on Saturday, July 4, Mr Glover implied that the current challenges facing Ghana football could have been better handled under Mr Vanderpuye’s leadership, citing his approach and firmness in sports administration.

“He has been a Minister for Sports. He fought them, the GFA, he fought them because everybody want his player to feature. In fact, when they didn’t take him as the Sports Minister, I knew we were going to have a problem. I’m telling you, because the FA was not comfortable with the style of administration. Because for us, no cut corners. Whoever deserves on merit, he will let him go not because you’re my cousin or you’re my relations or nothing. He will make sure if you are on merit, he will let you go.”

Mr Glover further called for reforms in football administration, stressing the need for stronger leadership, accountability and merit-based player selection.

The Black Stars’ exit has reignited debate about the future direction of Ghana football, with stakeholders divided over coaching philosophy and management structure as attention turns to rebuilding the team ahead of future competitions.
