The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that it is awaiting the release of an outstanding balance of GH¢118 million from the Ministry of Education to complete post-West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) activities.

According to WAEC, the 2024 WASSCE for School Candidates commenced on August 5, 2024, and successfully concluded on September 20, 2024. The marking of essay and practical components, which began on November 7, 2024, was completed on November 29, 2024.

However, the council revealed in a statement signed by its Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, on Monday, December 9, that the scanning of objective cards, originally scheduled to run from November 1 to November 30, 2024, has been delayed due to a breakdown of scanning equipment.

WAEC expressed its commitment to resolving the delays and called on the Ministry of Education to expedite the release of funds to ensure the timely completion of the examination process.

WAEC indicated that “The Council is awaiting the release of additional funds out of the outstanding balance of GHC 118,000,000.00 from the Ministry of Education for the repair of the scanners to enable the scanning process and other post-examination processes to continue smoothly.”

The council appealed to its cherished examination officials and suppliers to exercise restraint as payment for their services would be made as soon as the needed funds are released from the Ministry of Education.

Adding, “Members of the public are urged to ignore information circulating on Social Media purporting to be dates for the release of results. The results will be released as soon as the challenges being experienced with the post-examination activities are resolved.”
