The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo has outlined plans to expand green spaces and strengthen environmental sustainability in the capital.
She made this commitment at the launch of the 2026 Tree for Life Reforestation Initiative, which was launched on Thursday, March 19, to mark the International Day of Forests.
Delivering he keynote address, she emphasised the need for a more structured and sustainable approach to urban greening, noting that rapid urbanisation continues to put pressure on the region’s environment.

She indicated that the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) is ready to enter into strategic partnerships with corporate institutions and environmental stakeholders to support the initiative.
According to her, priority will be given to planting trees along major roads and street medians, as well as expanding urban tree cover to help improve air quality and address rising temperatures in the city.
She stressed that preserving green spaces must be treated as an essential part of modern urban planning, describing environmental protection as critical to building a resilient and livable city.

The Minister also called on stakeholders to move beyond policy discussions and actively support tree planting and maintenance efforts.
She noted that the Tree for Life initiative is intended to be a long-term intervention, aimed at restoring the region’s ecological balance and promoting sustainable development.
Also present at the event were the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, his Deputy Yusif Sulemana, and other distinguished guests.
