The Ministry of Health has announced the payment of two months’ arrears to newly recruited nurses, assuring affected personnel that additional payments covering three months will be made between May and July 2026.
In a statement issued on April 28, 2026, the Ministry said the payments form part of its commitment to addressing concerns raised by newly employed nurses regarding outstanding salaries.
“The Ministry further wishes to assure all affected personnel that the next payment will be made for three months each, from May to July 2026, as announced earlier,” the statement said.
The Ministry expressed appreciation to health workers and stakeholders for their patience and cooperation, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening the health workforce to improve service delivery across the country.
It advised individuals facing challenges or seeking clarification on payments to contact the Human Resource for Health Development Directorate for assistance.
On recruitment, the Ministry disclosed that the government plans to employ up to 16,000 health workers this year as part of efforts to absorb trained professionals into the system.
According to the statement, financial clearance has already been secured for about 8,000 recruits, with efforts ongoing to obtain approval for the remaining positions.
“No health worker will be engaged without financial provision,” the Ministry emphasised.
It added that the approved clearances have been distributed across various health cadres to ensure a gradual and structured absorption process.
The Ministry also reiterated that its recruitment portal remains the only official channel for applications, stressing that the measure is intended to ensure transparency, fairness, and accountability.
However, it acknowledged that some applicants have experienced difficulties accessing the portal due to the high volume of traffic, leading to concerns among prospective recruits.
“The Ministry acknowledges these concerns and is actively working to secure additional clearances to accommodate more qualified applicants,” the statement added.
